Further to the announcement of the enhanced pay and benefits package for 2024/2025, this page sets out how the 2.5% additional pay supplement should be communicated within the recruitment process.
The pay award is non-consolidated (i.e. it will not be incorporated into the University pay scales), and therefore, Departments will need to refer to the award manually within the recruitment process. There are three key points within the recruitment process in which Departments may want to communicate the pay supplement, as outlined below.
Recruitment Advertisement / Further Information Document
It is recognised that, in addition to enhancing the pay of existing staff, the additional pay supplement might also help to attract new talent to the University. With this in mind, we encourage Departments to highlight the additional pay available in their recruitment advertisement and/or the Further Information document.
Note: Given that the additional supplement is only payable to a limited number of points on Grade 8, we recommend only using this wording on adverts for roles at Grade 1 - Grade 7.
“In addition to the base salary stated above, the successful candidate for this post will receive an additional 2.5% supplement to their pay.” |
Offer Letter
After identifying the successful candidate for a role, Institutions should refer to the additional pay supplement when drafting the offer letter in the Web Recruitment System. This should be added as a 'custom supplement' in the “Allowances and Supplements” section of the system (navigate to Step 2: Record Offer Details” and then “Pay” tab). A step-by-step guide on adding the wording is available in the 'Related Links' section of this page.
Appointments at Grades 1 - 6
"Interim Pay Award: You are eligible for a non-consolidated pensionable payment, equivalent to 2.5% of your basic pay. This supplement will be paid until the conclusion of the Cambridge Pay Review Project.” |
Appointments at Grades 7 and 8 (up to SCP 48)
"Interim Pay Award: You are eligible for a non-consolidated pensionable payment, equivalent to 2.5% of your basic pay. This supplement will be paid until the conclusion of the Cambridge Pay Review Project, or until you reach Point 49 on the Cambridge pay spine (whichever is the sooner).” |
Contract of Employment
The HR Shared Services team will include appropriate wording in the contract of employment for new employees who are eligible for the additional supplement. Outside of including the wording in the offer letter, no further instruction to the contracts team is required.
